. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu channel 2. the search for the person who was in a minivan that plunged into the bay is over. tonight, we have new details about the victim who was found inside that vehicle. geek i'm ken wayne. >>hello again everyone i'm heather holmes. rescue crews returned to san francisco bay and pulled that minivan from the water with the driver dead inside. we first told you about this bizarre crash yesterday. the van plunged into water in san francisco just offer the marina green. jade hernandez joins us live in the city. heather, i spoke to a man who

believes that the woman found in the bay was his neighbor's significant other. he said his neighbor couldn't bear to speak to us, and so he did. sharing details of the woman he says was a veteran, with family in georgia. >> reporter: this morning, an industrial- sized tow-truck pulled the van to shore. on friday, a dramatic rescue efforts after that same van plunged over a curb and off a safe cliff in the marina green. >> the investigators are find out if was a medical issue and go from there. >> this man samuel bibbens says woman was deborah crenshaw, a fellow veteran and grandmother and also a woman who was dating his neighbor william for years. >> they were fine, everything was fine. >> reporter: in fact, bibben says he saw the couple hours before

witnesses saw the van sink. >> i came down for dinner and somebody said a van had go into the bay. >> reporter: he never expected to say someone he knew was inside. >> william called me around 6:30 and said deborah was gone and you said gone where? and he said she is g.o.p., she passed away. >> reporter: that is when his neighbor, williams told bibbens about the van. >> it was shocking for me, just completely shocking, because you know, i have known them for a good while and deborah is like a relative almost. >> reporter: sam told us that the 60-year- old crenshaw was taking college courses and earning a's. i just got off the phone with the medical examiner a few moments ago and he told me they are still woring to positively identify the woman found. reporting live in san francisco tonight, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. two homes in san josi burst into flames overnight after a suspected teenaged car three of plowed into one of the houses.

it happened around midnight and police say the young driver led officer opposite a chase before crashing car. the car ruptured a gas line. one home was destroyed and other badly damaged. >> we had a hard time fighting the fire because the gas was difficult to shut off because the main was broken before the shutoff valve. so that hindered firefighting efforts. >> firefighters say pg&e crews got to the scene quickly to fix that ruptured gas line. teenaged driver was arrested at scene. one his young passengers and a police officer suffered minor injuries of everybody inside the homes got out safely. another fire in san josi burned ten acres and close down a major roadway. the fire started round east capitol expressway. a portion of capital expressway was closed as crews fought that fire. a firefighter on scene tells us that conditions in the area are very dry for this time of year. >> the trees behind me,

started to torch, which is rare for this time of year. we're experiencing fires now that we won't typically experience for another two to three months. so for it to be this active this time of year, in june, is definitely a concern of ours. >> fire officials tell us that the point of origin was near a homeless campply atwo-alarm fire in san leandro gutted a home and business and killed several pets the fire officials received the cal this afternoon at macarthur boulevard near the oakland border. one firefighter was tape to the hospital for burns to his arm and hand. fire crews say that the layout of the building made the fire difficult to fight. >> due to the construction of the building, temperatures inside the structure were reaching in excess of 2,000 degrees. that house was full of pets, four of which died. five cats tonight are still unaccounted for. the cause of that fire is under investigation. a man escapes serious

injury today after getting trapped in the sand of a beach near bodega bay. a state park ranger tells us that the man was trying to dig a tunnel in the sand at portuguese beach when he became trapped. as you can see they managed to pull him out of a an hour of digging. rangers say while today's outcome was good, digging sand tunnels can be very dangerous. police arrested a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting last april in hayward. 26 -year-old was arrested in the parking lot of a wal-mart. he was wanted for the deadly shooting for ezekiel taylor. authorities are looking into a group discovery in san lorenzo where the bodies of two elderly woman were found inside a home.

a mailman called deputies after he hadn't seen the women in self days. their deaths are not considered suspicious. the women are believed to be sisters in their 90s. their identities have not yet been released. today people who volunteer their time searching for missing morgan hill tornado warning sierra lamar opened up their new headquarters. the "find sierra lamar" group moved from morgan hills to central high school just a couple of miles away. the old site is slated to become a new continuation school. today's sierra's father and mother took part in a search this morning. hundreds have been looking for any sign of sierra. the 15-year-old disappeared on her way to school in march of last year. southwest airlines are back to normal following that massive systemwide computer glitch that called cancellations and delays across the country. thetwo southwest flights out of

sfo were canceled and one flight out of oakland airport was delayed yesterday due to that computer problem. caltrain service has been restored after a small fire above the caltrain tunnel in san francisco. the fire on top of the tunnel forced caltrain to halt service between the bay shore and san francisco stations for about 90 minutes today, starting at 2:00 this afternoon. the cause of that fire is under investigation. the first race in the america's cup is set to begin in two weeks, but questions remain about safety regulations. race organizers announced four days of mediation on proposed safety measures ended without an agreement. regatta director recommended 37 new safety rule after that dead think capsizing the artemis racing boat last month. organizers are not saying what the sticking points are. however, limiting upper wind speeds is thought to be one of them. organizers put together a desperately needed food drive today for oakland he'd mother mary ann wright foundation.

center. there is a big crowd here and the star of the night is that super moon. kids and adults came for tonight's celestial event. the moon is reaching the closest point to the earth and of course you can see well with the naked eye, but some telecops were useful in bringing the moon closer to parents and their chin. >> it keeps us in touch with how beautiful the universe is and how wonderful it is to share it with other pep, especially young people. >> when the moon is at about 4:32 in the morning our time, the moon is going to be a little bit closer and technically it would appear a little bit larger than it would be at any other perigee point during the course of the year. >> reporter:

. 4th of july is coming up less than two weeks away and a labor dispute is brewing at some bay area parks. workers at east bay regional parks are threatening to walk off the job just in time for that busy national holiday. the group says it's been working without a contract for months. ktvu's christien kafton tells us that workers picketed and if they don't have a contract soon

they will be on strike c. in fremont they were met with a steady drumbeat and say park employee have been working without a contract since the end march and now workers are threatening a strike on the 4th of july. >> we'll be tell them about our flight and asking for their support. park workers say that a strike would affect everything from trash pick up to bathroom cleaniness and in short an entirely different park experience for visitors. >> can you imagine the bathrooms may get dirty and garbage is going to pile up, but we hope that the public will understand and stand in solidarity with us. >> the park district will remain open, it always is, and we will do what it takes with management employments or something else to make sure that 4th of july is a great one for the resident of bay area.

their mother. relatives say the victims with 17-year-old richard james, jr., 15-year-old roland lowe and 46-year-old colleen lowe of sacramento. butte county prosecutors revealed that the 17 -year-old had spent several summers visiting the suspect, 7-year- old donald clark. but for some reason their friendship soured. the three were shot to death and then the bodies burned near chico earlier this month cbx in a video released today, president obama announced he will make a major speech next week about climate change and how to solve it. >> it's a serious challenge, but it's one uniquely suited to america's strengths. we'll see need scientists and farmers and engineers to device new sources of energy and businesses to make and sell them. we'll need workers to build the foundation for a clean-energy economy. >> mr. obama called for america to be a leader in combating the global crisis and he will make his speech tuesday at georgetown university in washington d.c.. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a

after a four-hour search investigators came out with several brown paper bags, but they didn't say what they contaped. hernandez is not a suspect in the shooting death of his friend odin lloyd, the tight end for the patriots has refused to comment on the investigation. we're just learning that the ambulance which was taking former south african president nelson mandela to the hospital broke down. a second ambulance was sent to take the former president to the pretoria hospital. the presidential spokesman says doctors say the delay did not cause mr. mandela any further home. he remains in the hospital in serious, but stable condition. there are new details tonight that could affect the upcoming trial of george zimmerman. he is the florida man accused of second-degree murder in the

shooting death of 17-year-old trayvon martin. today the florida judge ruled that audio experts cannot testify about who was screaming on the 911 calls made during the shooting. ruling comes just before the trial is due to begin on monday. as christina mutchler tells us today, this decision is a crushing blow to martin's father who testified that the screams were that of his son as zimmerman shot him. >> a huge decision days before the start of george zimmerman's murder trial. >> do you think he is yelling help? >> yes. >> reporter: a florida judge ruled saturday that two expert opinions of that 911 call recorded the night zimmerman killed trayvon martin will not be allowed at the trial. it's a victory for the defense team, who argued that the audio quality is not enough to determine who was yelling. >> the screams don't match at all.

them are gay. the san francisco human services agency says january's holeless up counts found more than 6400 people live on san francisco's haves and 29% identified as being lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. and this is the first census where volunteers asked the homeless about their sexual orientation. >> a 33-year-old man in santa rosa is behind bars after police say they he led them on a very high-speed chase. a motorcyclist was speeding on sebastopol road and officers say when they went to pull the motorcyclist ovhe sped up and reached speeds of 120 miles per hours. they finally arrested him and police identify him as ramar palmer, who had a valid driver's licenses and no outstanding warrants. police say he ran simply because he thought he could get
